Welding and Metal Fabrication

Instructor: Bryan Bordinger
Course Description
Welding and Metal Fabrication is a one or two-year program which provides basic preparation in welding theory and principles, and includes the use of welding equipment, tools, and materials.  Once students have learned the basics, the majority of the class-work is hands-on. Students work to perfect their welding and fabrication skills by practicing on real life projects. Students with prior knowledge in mathematics and chemistry will find this to their advantage.

Students who want to pursue welding need to be motivated, patient, and able to follow multi-step instructions.  Students also need to have the ability to work independently, as well as within a group.  Students must be willing to take the initiative and follow through until their work is completed.  Since welding can be potentially dangerous, students must be consistent about safety precautions and wearing the required protective eyewear and clothing.

Throughout the course, students gain the skills and competence to become Department of Transportation (DOT) certified welders.  Students who complete the course are able to gain employment in the welding of steels, stainless steels, aluminum, and blueprint reading at many different levels.
