Jaden McNally, a senior at Schenevus Central School studying Visual Arts Communication and Technology, said she is looking forward to graduation.
That’s because when one door closes, another one opens. When the doors of Schenevus CSD and ONC BOCES close in June after McNally graduates, the doors of Mohawk Valley Community College will be waiting for her in September.
McNally is planning to attend MVCC to study digital animation. She is interested in one day bringing her talents to the animation teams who produce children’s movies or comedies.
One of the biggest things McNally said she has gained from her program at ONC BOCES is the ability to approach projects through planning and the use of systems.
“It’s helped me put things together in a format where I understand it,” McNally said during a recent class. “It has taught me how to use the tools I am going to need to use.”
When she graduates from high school, she will have a certification in Adobe Illustrator. Working toward software certifications helps build resumes and experience.
McNally said she enjoys the complexity and depth of programs such as Illustrator. She said she also enjoys being able to use creativity to accomplish a goal.
McNally said she highly recommends the CTE programs at ONC BOCES. For some students, she said, sitting in classrooms all day and learning from textbooks and lectures is just not for them.
She said she and other students at ONC BOCES have been able to flourish through “learning by doing.”
