Creating Rural Opportunities Partnership (CROP

The CROP Mission Statement

The Creating Rural Opportunities Partnership (CROP) After School and Summer Program is a consortium of sixteen rural upstate school districts, including Cooperstown, Edmeston, Laurens, Milford, Morris, Worcester in the initial CROP partnership, Andes, Charlotte Valley, Margaretville, Roxbury, Schenevus, and South Kortright in the expanded CROP partnership, and Cherry Valley-Springfield, Jefferson, Stamford and Oneonta's Riverside Elementary School in the latest partnership to be awarded.

The goal of CROP is to provide intellectual development and opportunities for increased academic achievement for students grades K-8 with a strong focus on middle school.  In addition, CROP provides youth development, enrichment, health, wellness, life skills, recreational and cultural opportunities for 1260 middle school and primary grade students, community members and parents through a 21st Century Community Learning Center Partnership.

Vision of Program Partners

Otsego Northern Catskills Board of Cooperative Educational Services (ONC BOCES) acts as the Local Educational Agency for the CROP programs.  In addition to the sixteen partnered school districts, CROP has established two levels of partners – major partners and community resource partners.

Major partners play a significant role in programming and have been extensively involved in the success of CROP’s 21st Century Community Learning Center project thus far.  CROP's 9 major partners include, the LEAF Council on Alcoholism and Addictions, and the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Delaware County (ADAC) and Schoharie County (CASA) who provide life skills, drug and alcohol awareness, parenting, and character education programs, the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts (UCCCA), the Roxbury Arts Group (RAG), and Cherry Valley-Springfield Community Facilities Corperation (CV-SCFC) who provide arts and cultural programming, Otsego County Girls on the Run (GOTR), Hawk Circle Wilderness Education, and Learning for Life.  In addition, the ONC BOCES Media Services Library offers unique opportunities for visual and media arts, and the Adult Education Department of ONC BOCES will help provide continuing education opportunities for parents of CROP children.

The Community Resource Partners are a wide variety of community organizations identified within the individual CROP communities.  These partners have pledged to provide service or programs to CROP students.  Some examples of support include: volunteerism by Rotary Clubs, read-aloud program at libraries, Parent Teacher Associations, scout troops, community action organizations, church groups, local businesses, retirement homes, etc.  Anyone who wants to make a difference in the community and support their school as a 21st Century Community Learning Center can become a Community Resource Partner.
