School commemorates fallen soldier after 10 years

Faculty and administrators from the Milford campus of the Otsego Northern Catskills BOCES commemorated the life of a former student and hometown soldier at a ceremony Wednesday Michael Mayne, a 2006 graduate of Edmeston Central School, served as a cavalry scout with the 1st Stryker Brigade combat team, 25th Infantry.

Stationed in Fort Wainwright, Alaska, Mayne was deployed to Iraq in August 2008 and scheduled to return home the following May.

Assistant Superintendent Joseph Booan unveiled a plaque near the building’s main entrance.

“We knew he was going to do great things,” said Booan, who served as principal while Mayne was a student.
