Hazardous Materials, Computer and E-Waste and Disposal

Legislation and/or Regulation:
Facilities where significant amounts of potentially hazardous chemicals are used may need to have a spill control and have designated staff trained in the procedures to handle chemicals safely and to clean up spills. OSHA and EPA regulate the use of hazardous chemicals on sites such as schools. EPA NESHAP, DOT and DEC regulations also govern waste disposal.

What the SRM Service can do to help:
Training and Workshops:
  • Advise districts in the chemical storage, clean-up, and disposal.
  • Act as a liaison with the NYS DEC during spill events.
  • Design a spill control plan for district facilities where such a plan is required.
  • Assist districts in proper disposal of various hazardous materials.
  • Assist districts in proper computer and electronics disposal/recycling
