Fire Safety and Code Inspections

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) logo. The NFPA is a nonprofit organization that creates standards to minimize the risk of fire and improve fire safety.

Mandate:
Legislation and/or Regulation:

The Law states that it is the duty of school authorities of public and non-public schools used for students to be inspected at least annually for fire hazards which may endanger the lives of students, teachers and employees therein. The report of such inspection shall be filed with the Commissioner of Education.

Must be completed each school year as per Commissioner's Regulations Section 155.8 in eleven month cycles.  

All buildings which are owned, operated or leased by a public school district or board of cooperative educational services shall be inspected for fire safety at least once annually, pursuant to a schedule determined by the commissioner, or at any other time deemed necessary by the commissioner. The report of the inspection shall be on a form supplied by the commissioner.
