Fire Safety and Code Inspections

Education Law section 807-a Fire Inspections
Commissioner's Regulations 8 NYCRR Part 155.1, 155.7, 155.8 and 155.25
NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Codes 19 NYCRR Part 1225, Fire Code and Part 1225, Property Maintenance Code.

The Law states that it is the duty of school authorities of public and non-public schools used for students to be inspected at least annually for fire hazards which may endanger the lives of students, teachers and employees therein. The report of such inspection shall be filed with the Commissioner of Education.

Conduct the fire and building code inspections annually for district schools.
Advise districts on compliance issues regarding fire and code safety.

Sound the alarm that working smoke alarms save lives!

Did you know that many people don’t test their smoke alarms as often as they should? When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast. You need working smoke alarms to give you time to get out. Test yours every month!

Don't forget to change the batteries in them at least once a year too!

Fire Inspections

The fire inspections are being performed for...

Otsego/Delaware County November 2020 to January 2021

Schoharie/Greene County December 2021 to February 2021

Must be completed each school year as per Commissioner's Regulations Section 155.8 in eleven month cycles.

All buildings which are owned, operated or leased by a public school district or board of cooperative educational services shall be inspected for fire safety at least once annually, pursuant to a schedule determined by the commissioner, or at any other time deemed necessary by the commissioner. The report of the inspection shall be on a form supplied by the commissioner.
