The recent Rural Schools Association (RSA) Conference in Lake Placid was a moment of celebration for our region, as two of our own were recognized with prestigious awards for their unwavering commitment to rural education.
Dr. Tarkan Ceng, School Superintendent for Jefferson Central School and South Kortright Central School, was honored with the William Deming Award, named after one of the RSA's founders and visionaries, William “Bill” Deming. This award is presented to individuals who demonstrate tremendous energy, service, and excellence on behalf of rural schools. Dr. Ceng’s contributions, leadership, and passion for rural education have not gone unnoticed.
In addition to celebrating Dr. Ceng’s achievement, our region was further honored when ONC BOCES District Superintendent, Dr. Catherine Huber, received the Anne Z. Paulin Award, presented by the RSA board each year to someone who embodies the spirit of dedication, service, insight, and support for rural education. This award honors the legacy of Anne Paulin, RSA’s longtime board chair, and her tireless work on behalf of rural schools.
These recognitions underscore the important work being done across our region to advocate for and improve educational opportunities for our students. Congratulations to Dr. Ceng and Dr. Huber!
