The New Visions Engineering Class of 2027 visited UAlbany’s College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering.
Students were welcomed by Paula Eisenberger, Education and Workforce Outreach Coordinator, who introduced them to an older model of chip manufacturing equipment. They then heard from PhD candidate Elija Feret, who studies nano-bioengineering, and met Dr. Walid Redjem, leader of the university’s Quantum Photonics Lab, who shared his research and gave students a look inside the lab.
Next, Steven Warfield, Senior Workforce Development Technician at CNSE, led a presentation featuring hands-on demonstrations and student volunteers! After lunch, students toured the silicon chip production facility, viewing equipment used by leading companies including IBM, Tokyo Electron, GlobalFoundries, Samsung, and ASML.
Thank you to everyone who made this educational experience possible! The visit gave students a firsthand look at cutting-edge research, semiconductor manufacturing, and the exciting possibilities within engineering.

On October 15th, we held our annual Advisory Committee Meeting and Dinner at NCOC. The evening was a success, with a great turnout and valuable input from our advisory members. This event provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen existing industry partnerships, welcome new connections, and explore future collaborations that will create meaningful career opportunities for our students.
A special thank-you goes to Chef Keith of Lazy K Farms in Harpersfield, NY, for catering our dinner, and to our Culinary Arts students and Chef Albano for providing cookies and cupcakes for dessert.
We also extend our appreciation to Cathy Boice and Olivia Hartery for coordinating the event and securing our caterer, Jesse Bright, for delivering the welcome speech, and to those who volunteered their evening to take notes and document advisory feedback. Thank you as well to our Board of Education members for attending and supporting our programs.

Health Occupations students are receiving valuable information both inside the classroom and during their clinical rotations. Maureen Kranbul, a Respiratory Therapist, was a guest speaker for the class last Friday. Maureen demonstrated how and why equipment is used to help patients breathe more easily. Students were able to experience what it is like to have breathing issues and used some of the equipment designed to help promote better breathing.

The Mechatronics Program was invited to attend the Empire State Energy Association Conference in Verona. Our participation was sponsored by Generation NEXT Pros. Our students were able to attend the keynote address by Dr. Ben Ballard, Director of the SUNY Morrisville Agricultural and Clean Energy Technology Center. The students were also able to participate in the inaugural job fair held in conjunction with the trade show. Students were divided into small groups and had the opportunity to talk with HVAC vendors, suppliers, and contractors in roundtable discussions.

On October 2nd, we welcomed 38 educators, school counselors and school leaders to the Transformation Collaborative, hosted at both OAOC and NCOC. Districts were encouraged to send teams to this full-day collaborative learning opportunity to explore how schools can thoughtfully develop a cohesive assessment strategy. Participants discussed how to examine current assessment practices, considered how assessments could better demonstrate student learning, and began identifying next steps to strengthen assessment systems within their districts. The day provided an opportunity for teams to collaborate, share ideas, and begin planning the changes for NY Inspires.
Last Friday, Cosmetology, Welding, EOR, and Culinary students attended SUNY Cobleskill's High School Days.
They had a great time exploring the campus, learning more about the programs, and meeting students who gave them a firsthand look at what it’s like to be part of their programs.

NCOC Innovative Program students had fun with color as they learned how to tie-dye! The shirts will be used for school-wide events that bring unity. We love community building and creative projects!

Their winning Buckeye Checkerboard Triple Layer Cake featured chocolate and peanut butter buttercream, salted caramel, and buckeye balls.

In NCOC’s Elementary Classroom, students have been using a classroom economy system to gain hands-on, real-world experience with budgeting, saving, financial responsibility, and making thoughtful choices with money. Throughout the school day, students earn classroom money for completing their work, participating, staying on task, being kind, helping others, and making positive choices. The classroom also incorporates ClassDojo points and SOAR!
Every Friday, each student receives a paycheck based on what they have earned throughout the week. As a class, they discuss what they earned, areas where they may not have earned the maximum amount possible, and ways they can work toward earning more. Students then “deposit” their paychecks and record the transactions in their own check registers. They practice adding deposits, subtracting spending, and balancing their checkbooks so they always know how much money they have available. It has been a wonderful way to incorporate practical math skills into something that feels meaningful and exciting to them!
Students have also been learning about saving, budgeting, credit versus debit, wants versus needs, and the importance of prioritizing needs before spending money on wants. They discuss how having enough money to purchase something does not necessarily mean they should spend it, especially if there is something bigger they may want to save for in the future.
This week, students had the opportunity to put all of that learning into practice during their first classroom auction! They had to decide which items were worth spending their hard-earned money on, how high they were willing to bid, how much they could afford based on their check registers, and whether to spend now or save some for the next auction.
It was so much fun watching the students use the skills they have been practicing in a real and meaningful way. One of the sweetest moments was seeing how many students chose to bid on items specifically for their siblings. It was such a wonderful reminder that while they were learning about money and financial responsibility, they were also thinking about others.

Every single day, our maintenance teams work behind the scenes to keep our schools clean, safe, and running smoothly. From cleaning up messes and stocking supplies to assembling furniture, caring for our grounds, and responding to emergencies, they truly do it all!

Jennifer shared her career journey—from starting in a cosmetology program, to an internship focused on wigs and makeup at the renowned Juilliard School, to working on numerous television and film productions, including an impressive decade with Saturday Night Live.
Our students got an inside look at what it takes to build a successful career in the beauty and entertainment industries, along with valuable insight into the many opportunities available to them.

We also kicked off a Business Office Bootcamp, an informative day that deepened our understanding of business office functions and strengthened the support systems that keep our schools running smoothly.
We welcomed our newest ONC BOCES members during New Employee Orientation, where staff learned about district operations and connected with colleagues and administration who will support them throughout the year.
Opening Day brought everyone together for team‑building and learning sessions—including important conversations about cybersecurity and how we can all help protect our school community. Instructional staff maintained momentum, with conference days filled with professional development, collaboration, and planning for the year ahead.
We are ready and excited to welcome students next week!
