Yesterday, Fox New Visions Healthcare Professions students spent the morning using sidewalk chalk to decorate outside for the nursing home residents to enjoy. Then, they were back hard at work for the afternoon, getting ready for their government final exam!

Last week, College For Every Student (CFES) completed their annual Lakefront project with the Cooperstown Garden Club. Mentors and mentees weeded, mulched and planted along the buffer strip in front of Otsego Lake in Lake Front Park in Cooperstown. The students did an excellent job!

Career Pathways I/II instructor, Ms. Bush, brought an Adirondack chair from her grandparents that had started to rot. She took it apart and made pattern pieces. The CP I/II students then used those pattern pieces to build their own Adirondack folding chairs!

Equipment Operation and Repair (EOR) is designed to teach students how to operate, maintain, and repair common equipment used in Construction and agriculture. Focus is also placed on welding, engines, hydraulic systems, electrical, and conservation projects such as land use planning, firewood and maple syrup production, and landscaping projects. Students receive hands-on training in equipment operation and maintenance, including bulldozers, loaders/backhoes, dump trucks, forklifts, skid steer loaders, mini-excavators, and agricultural tractors and dump trucks. Students use common industrial tools and equipment to prove classroom theory in the shop and outdoor work area.

Last month, the New Visions Engineering Class of 2024 explored two innovative companies shaping the future of aerospace and energy storage.
At Amphenol Aerospace in Sidney, the students delved into the company's aerospace contributions. Engineering Manager Richard Barnes led them touring the factory floor, witnessing the intricate processes behind manufacturing specialized connectors. A visit to the testing lab with Ryan Perry shed light on product quality testing methods and the impact of regulations on production. The students received a detailed breakdown of the processes and science behind Amphenol's production. They also met with Human Resources Manager, Valerie Wheeldon, learning about internships and the application process, before enjoying lunch with Amphenol employees.
Students visited Ioxus in Oneonta, where founder Chad Hall shared insights into the company's energy storage technologies. A tour of the manufacturing facilities and labs, guided by Mr. Eisele and Mr. Kovac, showcased the precision and innovation behind Ioxus's ultracapacitors. The day concluded with the students departing with a newfound appreciation for the impact of cutting-edge technologies in aerospace and energy storage, inspired by the possibilities within these industries.

Owen G., a Mechatronics student from Oneonta, has been awarded the Klein Tools Outstanding Graduate for Mechatronics this year! 🌟 Owen's growth and dedication throughout the program have been truly outstanding, and Klein Tools recognized this commitment by presenting Owen with a certificate, custom engraved linesman's pliers, and a set of tools to kickstart his career. Owen will be attending the SUNY Delhi HVAC Program in the fall.
Congratulations, Owen!

The NYS Leadership Conference and Skills Championships was held in Syracuse, NY, April 25-26th. OAOC sent 21 SkillsUSA members to participate in 13 team and individual-based competitions. The Engineering Technology Design (Trevor C., Lee M., and Nicholas T.) and Welding Fabrication (Jason R., Mehki R., and Madison S.) teams placed third in the state, earning medals and stage recognition. Other competitors were also successful in building their skills and confidence. Great work by all!

Alvogen Pharmaceuticals and the Baseball Hall of Fame opened their doors to the New Visions Engineering students last month, offering unique insights into vastly different industries.
At Alvogen, the students were immersed in the world of pharmaceuticals, with a tour highlighting the intricate processes of packaging, filling, and testing medications for quality and purity. Engineers shared their career paths and fielded questions, offering valuable insights into this highly regulated industry.
Switching gears, the class visited the Baseball Hall of Fame to explore the engineering behind America's favorite pastime. They learned about the history of baseball and even delved into batting statistics, calculating averages for legendary players.
Both trips provided invaluable experiences, showcasing the diversity of opportunities available to future engineers. Thank you, Alvogen Pharmaceuticals and the Baseball Hall of Fame, for hosting our students!

The New Visions Engineering program is designed for college-bound seniors who wish to pursue a career in engineering, science, or math. The program covers the basics of many engineering disciplines and provides an in-depth look into some of today's and tomorrow’s engineering fields.
The program offers college-credit Calculus, Physics, and Engineering Exploration with a project-based curriculum. Students take senior-level English, high school Economics, and Participation in Government, all emphasizing engineering connections.
Project-based learning includes individual and class contests at the engineering
competitions like VEX Robotics, SkillsUSA, Rube Goldberg, and Canstruction.
Aside from offering the project-based curriculum, students visit various industries where engineering is a key component. Industry partners often provide real-life problems for the students to work on.

OAOC's Health Occupations students had a great time at the NYS HOSA's Spring Leadership Conference in Troy, NY. 7 students competed in 28 different events.
Senior Peyton A. took 1st Place in Home Health Aide, and Junior Olivia S. took 1st Place in Personal Care Assistant!
We are so proud of their hard work and their representation of ONC BOCES! Congratulations!

The ONC BOCES Mechatronics Program competed in the New York State Industries for the Disabled (NYSID) CREATE Competition on April 8th. The students competed against engineering college students from across the NYS. They developed a prototype crimping machine for Creekside Industries/ ARC Otsego in Oneonta, and the team took third place in this competition!
We want to thank Creekside Industries for their help and for giving us this opportunity, Home Depot in Oneonta for donating the worktable, ONC BOCES New Vision Engineering for 3D printing parts, ONC BOCES Visual Arts for producing our video, and Ralph W. Earl for loaning us parts to build our specialized vacuum tool. We could not have done this project without all of their support!
Congratulations to the Mechatronics Team for completing an outstanding prototype crimping machine!

Maple season is underway for NCOC's Equipment Operation and Repair students!
