What is Distance Learning?
Distance Learning: "The process of extending learning, or delivering instructional resource-sharing opportunities, to locations away from a classroom, building or site, to another classroom, building or site by using video, audio, computer, multimedia communications, or some combination of these with other traditional delivery methods."
ONC BOCES offers a Distance Learning Program on behalf of the component school districts through the development of distance learning classrooms, delivery and reception of programs via an IP network and online courses. Coordination, equipment, training, and instructional costs are provided through this shared service.
The distance learning network allows for synchronous sharing of courses and programs with full audio and video capabilities or fully asynchronous classes through online courses. Participating sites share courses allowing students a wider variety of courses to choose from along with access to college level courses. The technology enables the districts to experience a global connections in such a rural area.
